"No Tubular Beads", and; "You need a blower".
It's been discussed elsewhere in this web site that I urge all parties buying Aquadyne to buy the DynaMax blower system. This completely avoids the almost inevitable "three year crisis" wherein most bead filters develop a tenacious gel inside which MUST be broken down in order for it to be discharged. This happens to all bead filters.
Tubular beads have been in use for years. At my favorite Hatchery there are vats of tubular beads being agitated for bio filtration, and, except that a lot of them fill with gel and sink, they work fine for bio. We won't use tubular beads in the Aquadyne, even if it would reduce costs and increase sales. We don't need the headache down the road, and there's no use ruining a perfectly good clarifying mechanical filtration capability.
But there may be a savings involved, so before we get all sweaty and our hands begin to shake, let's see if "cheaper" is better:

Question: Do you sell Ultima Filters? I've heard from some people; they're great.
Answer: Yes. AquaDynamite.com can sell this filter and I can beat any price. ANY price. Here are the terms: The sale is final, no refunds, no exchanges, your customer support will come from the manufacturer.
Name the price you want to pay (the lowest verifiable price you can find), submit payment instructions by fax to 800 757 8496 and it's on it's way to your house.

| One of the things that has been happening is that some filters look very, very similar to the Aquadyne. There are several problems.
They may be cheaper, therefore to some folks it's more attractive. BUT,
- They're made with 2" PVC and glue, the same as all the others - and additionally,
- This filter has *no* air blower. (It's been said that the air blower is needed by competitors to cover a design flaw) which actually only means they've never run a bead filter for several years. Because if you consider the incredible viscosity of bio-bead mucopolysaccharide "gel" an engineering flaw then so be it. "What goes in must come out", but the real "tanglefoot" for bead filter engineers is the gel that actually forms inside the filter.
- Some of the new beads are tubular, which means they can collect gel in the centers, and become negatively buoyant, or worse,
- Any anaerobic area, no matter how small, can begin to produce Hydrogen Sulfide.

Again, I am warning you that I am "done" with the sale as soon as it arrives intact at your home. I am not going to warrant, support or remedy any consumer issues with this filter once it is delivered complete and intact. You will need to pay in advance for this particular purchase by certified funds (cashiers check) so I can avoid a possible chargeback. Here's the pricing:

Ultima 1.5 cf $799.99 plus real cost of shipping
Ultima 5.0 cf $1499.99 plus real cost of shipping

Price match is okay - Just bring it.. I offer these only at your deliberate request with zero warranty and zero satisfaction policy.

What happens when you buy the wrong filter?
You run it for a couple years until it craps out or requires daily backwashes to allow decent flows, then you finally replace the filter at your expense. That's what.
This guy's not cleaning out this filter. He's throwing it out. He's got Aquadynes now, with a lifetime warranty.
How will your filter-choice be running in three years? The only way to know for sure is to buy the filter that has ALREADY been running, un-changed in its design since 1996.
