Deburring.
Here you see Mr. Crane deburring a center column. Why would he do this? The cuts in the column are made within a thousandth of an inch accurate, so why debur? It turns out that the little edges on the openings or "radials" cut into the column can "hang" algae and other bits of debris. If the radials are carefully buffed and deburred, the radials don't hold onto debris or bits of algae. The filter NEVER has a failure in backwash like so many other bead filters. Look at the next image and notice how much difference there is between the one on the left (deburred) and the one on the right (not deburred) and tell us which one you want. Do you think anyone else in the filter market deburs their radials?
